Mission Statement

The 2023 International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition is focusing on research of psychological stress, anxiety, and depression detection from salivary biomarkers. EmpireSpit's project to compete in this event consists of a holistic investigation. Our team has made efforts to learn first-hand from various credible sources such as mental health professionals, high-risk individuals, and SAMHSA employees. Mental health, often disregarded, is actually an essential aspect of the overall physical well-being of a human, which makes it significant to study. Ultimately, we aim to synthesize a diagnostic tool for stress, in hopes to promote health of the public.
